The Adamo and Adamo XL Motorhome Range: Which best suits your Needs?

The Adamo series has been with us since 2020 and has garnered attention for its design, functionality, and comfort. The standard Adamo range proved popular among buyers who require a motorhome under 3500kg.
As the moniker suggests, the XL range of Adamo motorhomes is based on a 4250kg chassis. It caters to those seeking a spacious motorhome for longer trips, holidays with family members, or simply more room to relax.
After spending some time with both motorhome ranges—the Adamo and the Adamo XL—I’ll explore their key differences to help you determine which best suits your travel needs.

Size and Weight
The immediate distinction between the two ranges is their size and weight.
The standard Adamo models are designed to be compact and manoeuvrable. They are under 7.5 meters long and have a maximum technically permissible laden mass (MTPLM) of 3,500kg or less. This ensures they can be driven by anyone holding a full UK driving license without needing C1 entitlement.

The Adamo XL is built for those who’d like more space. Each XL model is 8 meters long and has an MTPLM of 4,250 kg, necessitating a C1 license. This increase in size translates to generous living areas and storage options, making them ideal for extended tours, etc. If, like me, you passed your driving test before 1st January 1997, you will likely have received C1 entitlement automatically. This can be confirmed by looking at the categories listed on the back of your driving licence.
Layout and Sleeping Arrangements
The standard Adamo range offers five layouts on a 3500kg chassis:
The Adamo XL range introduces three distinct models, each with an incredibly versatile layout. The following models are based on a 4250kg chassis:

Adamo XL-I
Four-berth with a fixed island bed. 8-metres long.

Adamo XL-T
Four-berth with twin beds at the rear and an electric drop-down bed over the front lounge. 8-metres long

Adamo XL-DL
Five- berth. Double drop-down beds above both the front L-shaped dinette and the rear lounge, with the option to convert the rear lounge into an additional single bed. 8-metres long
Features and Amenities
Both ranges are built on the Ford Transit platform. They have a 2.0 diesel engine that produces 165 bhp, and the gearbox is an 8-speed automatic.

Adamo models also come equipped with:
- 200W Truma solar panel
- 105Ah AGM leisure battery
- 100-litre fresh and wastewater tanks
- Truma Combi 6E heating system.
It’s worth noting that dedicated, belted travel seats are included for all occupants. For example, a four-berth Adamo has four travel seats.

Summary
The Bailey Adamo range offers various options tailored to different travel needs. The standard models are ideal for those seeking a compact, easy-to-drive motorhome without additional licensing requirements.
The Bailey Adamo XL has a range of roomier layouts, whether you tour as a couple or a family. XL also translates to extra living space if you’d like additional space to relax, whether on a short UK break or an extended European holiday.
