Just back from...Pembrokeshire

Fill us in on what you got up to…

I spent five days with my boyfriend Phil exploring Pembrokeshire. We stayed in a motorhome over the whole break, at two different holiday parks – Crackwell Holiday Park and Lleithyr Farm. Visiting Tenby and Whitesands Bay it was great to get away for a few days as we both had birthdays over that weekend. If you’re looking for some time to relax and just have a few days by the beach then Pembrokeshire is for you.

Did you get any recommendations?

We were recommended Tenby in particular by other people we spoke to and we decided to go to Whitesands Bay as it looks very picturesque and being so close to Tenby was convenient to do both. We wanted to get the full experience of a motorhome break, having the freedom to easily move between places.

Give us the background info…

As I’d worked on the Autograph (it was my first project), I was really looking forward to getting away in one for a few days. Pembrokeshire is a great place to visit and while we took it easy and were not looking for an action packed break, we did see enough of Tenby and Whitesands Bay, especially its beaches. We had only been to Wales a couple of times before for day trips and even though it’s so close to Bristol, we wanted to see a bit more of it. Visiting Whitesands Bay meant we could visit Britain’s smallest city St. David’s.

Tell us about the motorhome…

It was my first time driving a motorhome and on the journey to Pembrokeshire I found it easier and more enjoyable to drive than expected, especially coming from a seasoned small car driver. The engine was more than capable so it never felt like it was a big/heavy vehicle. The only challenge was the single-track roads around Lleithyr Farm but we came out unscathed.

The Autograph 75-2 was the perfect size when pitched up, it felt open and spacious inside and was very comfortable to use. In particular the kitchen and bathroom were noticeably pleasant to use and there was so much storage.
Five days in a motorhome gave a taster of motorhome life and it’s something we would definitely like to do again.

Give us a taste of what the food was like…

Our journey to Tenby took longer than planned so our first night (Friday) was spent with a gourmet meal cooked up in the motorhome by Phil. We had a few meals in the motorhome and had typically easy meals to cook, such as, bacon sandwiches, burgers and ravioli. But on Saturday we visited The Salt Cellar on Tenby Esplanade for a birthday meal where we had local lamb and cod for main courses, finished off with desserts.

What was the most special moment?

The evening spent on Whitesands beach was pretty special. There were only one or two others about so it felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves as we watched the sun go down.

Clare’s top tip for Tenby and Whitesands Bay…

Taking a walk along the stretch of Tenby beach and doing some crabbing off Tenby Harbour. We didn’t get to go crabbing but the people that did had a successful catch.

One amazing activity…

It was hard to pick between watching the sunset on Whitesands Bay and watching people crabbing off the jetty on Tenby Harbour. But the sunset just pipped the crabbing to the post mainly because we got to build stone towers whilst we watched it.

Being able to use and drive the motorhome to explore new places was fantastic.
