Getaway to the Gower: Testing the Bailey Endeavour B62
In my role as lead designer, I’ve been fortunate to work on various projects, focusing on the layout configuration and interior design of Bailey vehicles. My involvement with Endeavour involved tasks ranging from upholstery and washroom design. Alongside this project, I took a more substantial role in developing the concept Endeavour EV – a fully electric version of the Endeavour B62. Having worked closely in developing Endeavour, the first-ever Bailey campervan, I was delighted to be asked to test the Endeavour on a weekend trip away.
Surprisingly, this was my first real experience travelling independently in a leisure vehicle, and the prospect of travelling was undeniably exciting, albeit accompanied by a hint of nervous anticipation. As a result of my inexperience when preparing for the trip, I leaned on the expertise of my colleagues, which involved demonstrations of how to operate the services and heating while away. I found this a really useful exercise as I have always known what services fit into our vans but had never fully understood how they are used. Embracing the mantra of packing light and staying organised, we made efficient use of every storage compartment within the Endeavour B62.
Our chosen destination was Swansea, located in South Wales, more specifically, Three Cliffs Bay in the renowned and picturesque Gower Peninsula. Conveniently, the Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park provides an ideal campsite for a simple weekend retreat. Nestled with a breath-taking view over the beach, it added a touch of magic. Despite initial nervousness about driving the Endeavour B62, especially on narrow Welsh country lanes, I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and straightforward the driving experience eventually turned out to be.
From setting up our camping spot and relishing a pizza with a view to early morning beach dips and cosy evenings playing board games in the van, each moment seamlessly blended relaxation with adventure.
For those venturing into campervans for the first time, my advice is straightforward – pack light, stay organised, and maximise every inch of storage space in the van. This approach ensured us a more enjoyable and stress-free experience. My initial impressions when travelling in the Endeavour B62 were overwhelmingly positive.
The excitement and anticipation for the weekend were met with the functionality and comfort that the campervan seamlessly provided. A particular feature that we found useful with such a narrow interior was the innovative tambour door design, cleverly creating more space in the habitation area when the washroom wasn’t in use, contributing to an overall sense of spaciousness. Reflecting on the overall performance of the Endeavour B62, the vehicle not only met but exceeded expectations, delivering comfort, functionality, and style, but also opened my eyes to the endless possibilities for caravan, motorhome and campervan holidays.
Looking ahead, I would love to travel an Endeavour again. Planning a trip with multiple destinations, perhaps exploring the scenic landscapes of Scotland, is a dream for the future. The Bailey Endeavour B62 not only met but exceeded my expectations, transforming a casual weekend getaway into an unforgettable experience.
