Best 4 berth motorhome layouts: Buyers Guide

Bailey Adamo 75-4DL

Looking for the perfect 4 berth motorhome for your next adventure?

With so many options available, sometimes it’s hard to know what the right option is for you and your family.

That’s why we’ve created this guide to some of the different types of 4 berth motorhome layouts available from Bailey of Bristol.

What is a 4 berth motorhome layout?

A 4 berth motorhome layout refers to how the inside of the motorhome is laid out in terms of sleeping and living arrangements.

Being 4 berth means the vehicle is:

  • Designed to sleep up to 4 people
  • Can have one type or a combination of bed types, including:

  • Fixed double bed
  • Drop-down bed above the living area
  • Twin single beds
  • Beds that can be made up from seating

Bailey of Bristol currently has a choice of seven 4 berth motorhome layouts across the Adamo and Alora ranges.

What are the advantages of each 4 berth motorhome layout?

4 berth motorhome fixed bed layouts

A ‘fixed’ bed means the bed is always made up: it is not made from a seating area that converts into a bed. An example of a fixed bed motorhome layout is the Alora 69-4I.

Who is it for?
This layout of motorhome is ideal for families or couples.

What types of fixed beds are there?
In the Bailey motorhome range, you can choose from:

  • Corner double bed
  • Island double bed
  • Twin single beds

What are the benefits?
Fixed beds are often situated within a dedicated bedroom, giving you:

  • Privacy: Separation between the living and sleeping areas gives you more privacy
  • Easy: The ability to just get into bed without having to make it up from the seating area each night.
  • Flexible: Motorhomes with fixed beds often come with the option to make up the front seating areas into the additional 2 berths. This gives you flexibility and space for a family on the road.

Island bed layouts

An island bed layout is a fixed double bed that extends out from the wall, giving you access to it from both sides. An example of an island bed layout is the Alora 69-4I.

Who is it for?

An island bed layout is ideal for those who find it challenging to use a bed with only one side of entry or those who may need a lot of storage due to the space available underneath the bed.

What are the benefits?

  • Storage: There is often plenty of storage space under the bed and this can be accessed by lifting up the bed from inside the motorhome or in some cases, via a locker door from the outside.
  • Flexible: Can be pulled out at night to make it longer and pushed back during the day for more living space at the foot of the bed.
  • Access: Easier to get into and out of, with access to both sides.

Motorhome with a drop down bed

This layout features a drop-down double bed that spans the full width of the motorhome and drops down from the ceiling above the living area.
During the day, the bed can be raised back into the ceiling out of sight, creating extra living space. It can be stored entirely made up with pillows and duvets, so all you need to do at night time is drop it back down again. An example of a dropdown bed layout is the Adamo 75-4DL.

What are the benefits?

  • Storage: Gives you a place to store extra pillows and duvets on top of the drop-down bed during the day.
  • Easy: In the Bailey Adamo range, we offer five models with electric dropdown beds that can be dropped down or raised at the touch of a button. The Adamo 75-4DL actually offers two drop-down beds and two lounges for double the sleeping and lounging space.

Fixed Single Bed layouts

Another fixed bed layout, this gives you a constantly made-up single bed—often by means of twin single beds. An example of a twin bed layout is the Alora 69-4T.

Who is it for?
This is an excellent option for families with two children or couples who holiday together.

What are the benefits?

  • Privacy: Gives two people a separate bedroom to share without having to share a bed. This is great for children, friends and couples who prefer to sleep separately to make getting up in the night easier.
  • Access: With fixed beds at one end of the vehicle and a make up bed in the lounge, this layout gives easy night time access for everyone to the central kitchen and bathroom.

Front and rear lounge layouts

Front lounges

All Bailey four berth motorhomes come with a front lounge. This is a standard feature in most motorhomes because the driver and passenger seats can swivel to double as lounge seats.

Front lounge features include:

  • Fully adjustable upholstered driver and passenger Captain’s seats in the cab that can be used as lounge seating
  • Domestic-style sofa seating that doubles as travel seats
  • Overhead lockers for storage
  • Table for games, meals or just a coffee break
  • Loose fit drop-in carpets

Rear lounge motorhomes

Our Adamo 75-4DL is a motorhome with a rear lounge and drop-down bed.

Rear lounges offer extra room and the possibility for family members to have their own space. For example, children can play in the back while adults relax in the front lounge.

Rear lounge features include:

  • U-shape lounge with domestic-style sofa seating
  • Sheer panel curtains
  • Rear lounge wardrobe and shelves that can be accessed from the exterior garage door
  • Flexible reading lights with integral USB sockets
  • Storage locker under the sofa

4 berth motorhome with a rear washroom

When a motorhome has a rear washroom, this this often spans the full width of the motorhome behind the bedroom. An example of an end washroom model is the Adamo 69-4.

What are the benefits?

  • Large: The washroom will often be larger as it spans the full width of the motorhome. This allows for additional storage options to be included in the washroom and also more space to be available for washing, drying and changing.
  • Privacy: It also gives you extra privacy as the washroom is at the back of the van and, in many cases, behind the bedroom. This means you can quickly close the bedroom door and get washed and changed, separate from the rest of the living space.
  • Extra space: It also means that the rest of the motorhome can feel more spacious as the washroom does not occupy the same space as the kitchen and lounge.

FAQs: Motorhomes 4 Berth

Why do people buy a 4 berth motorhome with a central washroom?

Many families or couples who holiday together prefer a motorhome with a central washroom because it becomes easy to access from anywhere in the vehicle—no one needs to go through a bedroom to reach the washroom. In some instances, this layout is flexible to have a door that allows you to close off the shower area from the toilet, keeping the toilet accessible when someone’s in the shower.

How much storage space can I expect in a 4 berth motorhome layout?

All Bailey motorhomes come with plenty of storage options.

The main ones include:

  • Overhead lockers: All the motorhomes in the Autograph and Adamo ranges have overhead lockers in the front lounge area.
  • Kitchen storage: There are kitchen units above and below the workspace in the kitchens, giving you somewhere to store food items, kitchen equipment, crockery and glasses
  • Bedroom storage: Depending on the model, the bedrooms in our motorhomes often feature wardrobes, overhead lockers and bedside cubby holes.
  • Bathroom storage: Our motorhome bathrooms have a variety of storage space options, from bathroom cabinets and under-sink storage to towel rails and wardrobes.
  • Garages: The Adamo 69-4 comes with a garage that will allow for bike storage and is heated, so you are able to dry wet kit.

What is a garage in a 4 berth motorhome?

In a motorhome, a garage is a rear-located storage compartment that can be accessed from outside the vehicle (and sometimes from inside).
Larger than internal storage, it’s designed for storing outdoor or bulky items like bikes and outdoor furniture. Some garages are heated and can even be used as a space for your dog when you are pitched up!
