Winners of the 2025 Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year Competition are announced

23rd September 2024 | Bailey of Bristol
Testing for the 42nd Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year Competition took place in July at Millbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire. A wide cross-section of vehicles from leading car manufacturers was put through rigorous testing by an independent panel of driving judges over four days.

Bailey of Bristol was invited by the Caravan and Motorhome Club to supply caravans for this prestigious event for the 26th consecutive year. While the primary aim is to assess the performance of the individual tow vehicles, the competition also provides a thorough examination of the participating caravans in terms of product durability and stability.

A selection of ten Bailey Discovery, Phoenix GT75, Pegasus Grande GT75, Unicorn, and Alicanto Grande caravans was chosen for testing, each matched appropriately with the tow vehicle. Every caravan was ballasted to 85% of the tow car’s kerb weight or its maximum towing limit (whichever was lower), with stability aids such as the AL-KO ATC trailer control system disabled to ensure each car’s performance could be fully evaluated.

All Bailey leisure vehicles are built using the patented Alu-Tech construction technology with a GRP outer skin, making them more robust, durable, and yet lighter than those built using conventional methods. This construction offers greater protection against the elements, keeping occupants comfortable, safe, and secure all year round. To date, over 80,000 Bailey leisure vehicles have been manufactured using this ground-breaking technology and are currently in use worldwide.

During the evaluation, over 165 circuits of the Millbrook track—including laps of the high-speed circular track and a demanding hill route—were completed, totalling over 850 test miles, all without incident.

Bailey of Bristol sees participation in this competition as one of many ways to test their caravans and motorhomes to the limit. For more details on the industry’s most comprehensive product validation programme, click here.

Nick Lomas, Director General of the Caravan and Motorhome Club

We would like to offer our sincere congratulations to all the worthy winners in the Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year 2025 Awards.  Our panel of independent judges were able to evaluate the entrants in order to provide professional, qualified and unbiased information to help everyone who plans to buy a towing vehicle. Leisure vehicle holidays continue to be hugely popular and here at the Caravan and Motorhome Club we know our 1m+ members eagerly await the results of these awards in order to help them make an informed decision and help them to find the perfect towcar for their needs.

The overall winner of the 2025 Towcar of the Year is the Volvo XC60 T6 Plug-in Hybrid AWD Plus.

Simon Howard, Marketing Director of Bailey of Bristol

We have really enjoyed playing our part in this prestigious event over the past two decades. The collective effort which goes into ensuring every entrant is evaluated both thoroughly and fairly during the competition make this the definitive guide for a potential new tow car purchase.

From the Bailey point of view, Towcar of the Year always represents a very stern test for our caravans. Seeing how well they perform being towed by a wide variety of tow vehicles on a very demanding circuit is always very reassuring.

The full results of the competition were announced at The RAC Club in London on 20th September and details of the winners can be watched below:
