The Touring Boys try out the new Unicorn - First ever holiday in a Series 5
Lee and Simon Grounds-White are the couple behind The Touring Boys, an Instagram page dedicated to the couple’s travels and experiences with their Unicorn Series 2 Barcelona, while they showcase some of the most stunning locations around the country and more specifically around Cornwall, where they are based.
Not long before the new Unicorn Series 5 was revealed, the Bailey team contacted them with a proposal: To be the first ever customers to test and take the new Unicorn on a holiday break. So only a few days after our live launch event (that they also attended), Lee and Simon, along with their dog Lola, collected a brand new Vigo from their local retailer Penrose Touring. This is how their weekend went…
Where did you go?
We had exclusive use of a private pitch based in Falmouth, Cornwall.
What did you do during you break with the Unicorn?
Mainly disconnect, relax and spend time with our friends and family. We were visited by our godchildren Ethan and Isla, who were very excited to see the new caravan. Once there, they really wanted a ride on the lawn tractor.
We generally found the new Unicorn very comfortable to spend time relaxing in. We enjoyed spending time with friends and family, which is how we mostly spend our time in our caravan.
What do you tow with?
We tow with a BMW X5 40d. Having had a multitude of tow vehicles, we find this to be the best as an “all round” tow vehicle and daily drive.
How was your experience towing the Unicorn?
Simon does all of the towing as he has taken his B&E test. We have always found towing our own twin axle caravan to be a far smoother experience than our previous single axle vans. Despite the new Unicorn Vigo being single axle, it proved to be a very comfortable tow indeed. It was smooth, comfortable and felt very secure.
What was your favourite feature in the Unicorn?
Our favourite feature has to be the new infinity window. The signature Bailey large front window is what attracted us to buying our Unicorn Series 2 Barcelona. Being 50% bigger you can really tell the difference in the amount of light that it lets in, plus being able to sit inside and take in such amazing views… Even on a dull day!
How was your sleep?
Unrivalled! We both tend to sleep very well in our own caravan. However, with the new wider bed in the new Unicorn this has been, without doubt the most comfortable and spacious night sleep we’ve ever experienced in a touring caravan.
What did you cook in the caravan?
Fortunately, we were blessed with good weather the weekend we had the new caravan, which meant we were able to spend time relaxing outside enjoying a nice barbecue with our new Cadac. This has to be without doubt our first choice of meal when we’re in the caravan. In the nicer weather, of course! However, the kitchen layout in the new Unicorn does provide everything you could possibly need to cook up a storm for multiple people.
What was Lola’s favourite spot in the caravan?
Easy….. She adored sitting and looking out of the infinity window! It’s her favourite spot in our own caravan. Even she appreciated the new larger outlook!
How do you think it compares to the previous series of the Unicorn range?
We have only ever personally owned a Series 2 Unicorn. Family members have a Series 1.
Before purchasing our caravan (and indeed since) we do enjoy having a mooch around various dealers when we’re out an about and have certainly been inside and looked around at pretty much every range. Unicorn have always been one of our favourite caravan ranges.
We both feel that this is set to be the best Unicorn yet! The paler wood finish (a preference of ours anyway), the new styling and refinements should make it an incredibly popular range. The new layouts look set to cover an array of choices and preferences for a wide audience of potential buyers.
